If you don’t have a water-resistant phone and drop it in water you need to act quickly to give it the best chance of surviving the dunk. But before we cover the steps to fixing your water damaged phone, Let’s highlight the things you definitely shouldn’t do :
WHAT NOT TO DO
Don’t switch it on – if your phone was off when you dropped it in water. leave it off. Switching it on while wet could short the electrical connections and cause irreparable damage.
Don’t press any keys, unless to turn the phone off – as this can help water penetrate further into your mobile phone.
Don’t shake or blow on it – as again this could enable further water ingress and damage.
Don’t take your phone apart – as this could invalidate any insurance or warranty that you currently have. You could do more harm than good unless you know exactly what you’re doing.
Don’t heat it up or cool it down – extreme temperatures can damage your phone in many other ways or could further help the spread of water inside your device.
8 STEPS TO FIX YOUR WATER DAMAGED PHONE
Switch off your phone if it isn’t off already – this will help to prevent electrical connections shorting and give your phone the best chance of survival.
Remove any casing, the sim card and if possible the battery – this will help the internals to dry out quicker.
Use a cloth to absorb any visible water – try to use something absorbent like a cloth or paper towel to soak up any visible water on your phone. Try not to spread the water around though, as this could push it into other parts of the device.
Try a vacuum cleaner – if there’s lots of water in the ports you can try using a vacuum cleaner to suck it out. Make sure there aren’t any loose parts first though – especially things like sim or microSD cards.
Place your phone in a container full of uncooked rice – ideally use a zip lock bag, and make sure that the phone is completely covered. Uncooked rice will help absorb the water from the atmosphere in the bag ( including in any hard to reach places in your phone. you can also buy dry bags online specially for this purpose, or use those silicon pouches that you get in luggage and shoes boxes.
Leave your phone for at least 48 phone – Don’t be tempered to turn your phone back on before waiting at least 48 hours for it to dry. Place your SIM card in a spare phone in the meantime if you can to ensure that you’re still contactable.
After 48 hours try switching your phone back on – if it doesn’t switch on then try charging it first. Unfortunately if that doesn’t help you’ll need to take it to a professional for repair so don’t worry we are here to help you just contact GADGETSPHIX.COM
If it does turn on, keep an eye on it – and try to test the various features like the speakers, touchscreen and camera to ensure that they work. While it’s great that you have access to your phone again, the water damage could have triggered corrosion inside your phone and it might not continue working for long. Take this opportunity to back up your photos and other data to ensure that doesn’t get lost if your phone does fail in the next few days.
